Our Approach to Osteopathy
One of the unique attributes of classical osteopathy is its non-invasive nature. During a classical osteopathy session, your practitioner will assess your body’s current state manually. They do this by placing their hands on different parts of your body and examining for strength, mobility, tension, and flexibility. From there, your practitioner will assist you in performing a number of different stretches, movements, and exercises in order to support your body’s overall function and alignment. A classical osteopathy treatment is geared toward helping you gain a greater state of balance across all the systems in your body. Osteopathy is a very gentle treatment modality suitable for patients of all ages, including babies and children.
What Conditions Do We Treat?
Misalignment
The many joints in our bodies – jaw, shoulders, wrists, hips, feet – are often misaligned and can lead to limited range of motion and symptoms of pain. Osteopathy works by maintaining the correct positioning of the bones, easing pressure from our joints, and preventing cartilage from becoming overly worn out. Prolonged sitting can also cause problems with posture and can lead to lower back pain. Osteopathy can treat your spine and pelvis to help ensure proper alignment and relieve pain and tension from your muscles.
Athletic Performance
Consistent osteopathic treatment can play a huge role in keeping your body in a healthy and balanced state, despite the wear and tear of athletic performance. Osteopathic treatment can help improve muscle strength, joint flexibility, and overall respiratory capacity. It is also very beneficial in case of injury and can help heal and strengthen bones and soft tissues after fractures, sprains, or surgeries.
Chronic Pain & Tension
During periods of chronic stress or anxiety, your body can often tighten up, which can lead to your brain receiving mixed signals. The fight-flight-freeze reaction tightens your muscles to prepare to react. If it stays that way for a long time, it can lead to soreness, aches, and loss of motion. Classical osteopathy sessions can help relieve the blockages in your body, allowing signals to flow more freely. This may reduce pain, tension, and stress, while also helping you to get a better night’s sleep.
